History of Sawai Madhopur

Sawai Madhopur, founded in 1763 by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I, is best known for the Ranthambore National Park. Historically, the region was ruled by various Rajput kings, with the Ranthambore Fort being a major defense stronghold. The fort was originally built in the 10th century and has seen many battles over the centuries.

Sawai Madhopur’s significance grew with the establishment of Ranthambore as a tiger reserve in 1973. Today, it’s a prime destination for wildlife enthusiasts who visit to see the majestic Bengal tigers and other diverse wildlife in their natural habitat.
